I just tried to pull my free annual credit report and now I am worried. I chose Experian, and one of the things that they do in order to confirm that you are who you say you are is pull a few things from your credit report and ask you to verify them. The first question for mine was "Your credit report shows that you applied and received an auto loan in 2006. What type of car is the loan for?"
Y'all, I don't have a car loan on my credit report. I have never had a car loan in my name in my life. Never. Of course, since I couldn't verify the information about my nonexistent car loan I can't have instant access and have to wait for them to mail me something. In the mean time, I am going to have a heart attack wondering what the heck it is.
I pulled Marty's report and the same stinking wrong address is showing up on his report that I have been trying to get them to remove from mine for, oh, I don't know... 8 years? I disputed it again, but they will just come back and say that it can't be removed because it is correct. Um... no it isn't.
There is another address that isn't correct and when I tried to dispute it, it said: The address in question was reported by your creditors or potential creditors or obtained from public records. If incorrect you may want to contact the source of the information directly. Great, except it doesn't tell me who reported the false information.
All in all, there are three wrong addresses, and the address of the house we owned is listed as a business.
It really scares me sometimes that so many things are based on your credit report, and they can get so many things wrong. And it really seems like they just don't care.

I got the same thing--I don't have a new car loan either, but it did not show up on the other agency sites. I'm not too sure Experian is the most reliable source of information, which is scary because some companies use them...Look up the Fair Credit and collections act for your rights..
Good Luck!
It is just killing me waiting for them to send whatever they need to send.
It amazes me that they can get so much wrong, but yet just about everyone will rely on them to make important decisions about your financial future.
The sad truth is they do not care- not one little bit. When we bought our house we had to jump through hoops about incorrect information on our report. Luckily, the loan officer got as fed up as we did with responses from them and just finally overlooked it. That's rare though and probably impossible in today's economic climate.
Cy- What a headache it sounds like you had to deal with! I am just glad that we don't use our credit to purchase things. The thing that stinks is that things like car insurance rates and whether or not you qualify for an apartment is based on your credit.
They did email me back that they had removed one of the bad addresses from Marty's credit report, but when I looked to make sure, I noticed another mistake. Somehow, they have my grandparents last name as Marty's last name. My grandparents have never done anything pertaining to our credit- other than being a reference - but somehow now their last name is forever stuck to Marty? Sheesh!
